President's Message
(April 2023)
Dear Fellow Woodturners:
Time flies when you are busy turning. We are nearly halfway through another year, and I must say the club has accomplished several of our goals; with the purchase of a large lathe, video, and audio equipment, and we have grown the membership to over fifty members in good standing, not bad.
Greetings to everyone, and hope everyone is in good health.
This Saturday, May 6, 2023, we will be meeting at our club house. I'm excited about our agenda, which we will feature a wood raffle. This raffle will have some interesting pieces for the lucky ticket holders. Phil Coghill tells me he has two or three boxes of rough turned pieces he is willing to donate to the raffle. He will also sell some items of interest as well. Please bring your extra blanks, logs, and any wood you may have lying around.
The demonstrator extraordinaire, so he tells me, will be Steve Nix. Steve will demo different approaches and techniques for mounting odd, irregular shaped wood on the lathe. There was much interest shown at the SKEW last month, on the subject of mounting burls and other shapes. If you have something handing around, and not sure what can be done with the wood, Steve would welcome the challenge. I would like to personally thank Steve for being so generous with his time and the many contributions he has made to the club.
This meeting (May 6) will be your last opportunity to present your first President's Challenge, a "BOX". I will announce the second challenge on Saturday. Please bring your turnings for SHOW and TELL.
