President's Message
(September 2024)
I hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. The Saturday, September 7 meeting will start at 8:00 AM. At the October meeting we will go back to our 9:00 AM starting time. For those of you that are driving from the Alexandria area, Lake Charles, etc., the earlier start time might be challenging to say the least. In consideration of the distance some of you have to travel, the benefit starting earlier during the hottest months may not be justified. We might consider staying with the 9:00 AM start time for the entire twelve months. We are open to suggestions.
I have talked with some of the members that attended the SWAT symposium; they all were very pleased with the demonstrations and vendors. There were twelve that attended and hopefully next year more of us can go to Waco.
Our demonstrator for the September meeting will be Gary Rock. You can be sure you will learn something new that will enhance your skill. Gary will turn a lidded box with a twist, no pun intended. Gary also have the "bring back".
The September meeting is the deadline to turn in the "President's Challenge": a mallet. This will give you another opportunity to participate in the drawing.
We will have a wood raffle at the October meeting. Start gathering wood you might not need and also any tools and supplies you no longer use. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Last but not least, support the "Show & Tell" and bring your turned pieces. Everyone can learn from your work, even your failures.
Looking forward to SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 at 8:00 AM.
Cordially,
Garland J. Barras
President
Acadiana Woodturners Club
