President's Message

(May 2022)

Dear Fellow Woodturners:

We had a great turn-out at the May workshop meeting, there were twenty-one members attending, counting our new member, John Lavarine, Welcome to the AWT's.  I apologize for the confusion on the May meeting starting time; we had four or five members arriving at our regular schedule meeting time, which is 9 am, and we actually got started at 8 am; as was indicated in the newsletter.  In the future Lenny will remind everyone, in BOLD LETTERING, and also send out a reminder a couple days prior to the meeting.

I would like to remind everyone to bring your weed pots/bud vases at the upcoming meeting, SATURDAY, JUNE 4, 2022 at 9AM to 12 NOON.  This will be your last opportunity to get your name in the hat, for the first challenge.  I will announce the second challenge at the upcoming meeting, and you will also have three months to complete.  The winner of the president’s challenge will be given a AWT, and AAW membership for 2023.   Completing both challenges, doubles your odds to win.

If you are planning to attend the SWAT symposium in Waco, Tx., on Aug. 25th thru the 28th, you must register and pay prior to our Saturday, July 2nd meeting, in order to be eligible for the $ 175.00 scholarship drawing.  The lucky winner will have his registration fee reimbursed.

A special thanks to Ralph Rochon for bring two delicious banana nut breads; that he claims he baked, we will not tell Sylvia.  Also, a special thanks to Danny Comb, (Alligator Man), for the doughnuts.  Once again, I would like to also thank Darrell Gregory for subbing, in the absence of Lenny our secretary.

For our June meeting, Steve Nix has volunteered to do a presentation on Hollow form turning.  This is an area in turning that spurs much interest.  Hollow forms are very popular to the public in general, and if you sell some of your pieces, hollow forms attract much attention.  Come to our SAT., JUNE 4TH MEETING, and Steve will show you how it's done.

Monthly Meeting Place: Our regular meeting place, Lewis Services, 510 Saul Dr., Scott, La. 70583
